Improving an email rating begins with the evidence behind the result. A message score, sending reputation and observed receiver outcomes are different measures. Changing one number does not certify universal inbox delivery.
Prioritise the actual issue, responsible sending route and recipient expectations. Keep the original finding and correction so the next check evaluates a meaningful change.
Identify the metric and its direction
Read the tool’s scope and scale before treating a high value as bad. Mail-tester’s documentation explains its favourable high-score presentation; other filters can use different models.
Separate message findings from reputation or blocklist observations. Our score-model guide explains why incompatible results should not be averaged into a probability.
For a hypothetical campaign, a favourable content report might accompany repeated delivery rejections on one route. That needs route-level investigation. In another case, configuration can be correct while recipients complain that they did not expect the messages. Chasing the content score would address neither case.
Keep each documented issue’s original source, exact scope and responsible person together so a repeat test can evaluate the intended correction.
Correct the relevant sending configuration
Record the platform, visible From identity, authentication domains and actual sending infrastructure. Review delivered results rather than only the presence of a DNS record.
Gmail’s sender requirements provide one receiver’s current framework, including additional bulk conditions. Follow the sending provider’s configuration instructions for the actual route.
Our DNS guide helps separate service settings from registration. A reputable platform cannot automatically make every list valid or every message wanted.
Review recipient expectations and controls
Check how recipients joined the list and what communication they expect. Keep opt-outs and suppression working. For UK marketing, consult the ICO’s electronic-mail guidance.
Use meaningful audience distinctions to improve relevance, without assuming segmentation makes an otherwise inappropriate message acceptable. Address observed failures and complaints using their actual reasons.
Fix content based on reported evidence
Use clear subjects, accurate identity and working destinations. There is no universal rule in which replacing “free” or “urgent” guarantees delivery. Review the real platform output and the particular diagnostic finding.
Retest using representative material and preserve the message version and route. A copied draft or different sending service can miss the configuration being investigated.
Verify observed outcomes after changes
Review bounces, deferrals, complaints and meaningful engagement with dates and scope clear. Google’s Postmaster Tools provide relevant information for verified sending domains and personal Gmail delivery; that scope does not cover every receiver.
Our assessment checklist connects those observations with the wider sending process. Missing data should remain unknown rather than become a good-reputation claim.
Continue correcting specific evidenced problems. The useful improvement is a better-understood configuration and sending practice, not a guaranteed grade that prevents all filtering or blocklisting.
