Page Authority, or PA, is a Moz metric about a particular page’s predicted ranking potential. When researching expired domains, record the exact URL behind the score. A value associated with an old article is not automatically a property of every future page on the domain.

Use PA to prioritise inspection, then verify the naming fit, historical links and acquisition route. A high number does not establish availability or guarantee future performance.

Collect candidates for a specific use

Write the audience, subject and acceptable extensions. ExpiredDomains.net supplies several candidate categories; preserve the source, category and check date.

Filter obvious naming mismatches before inspecting metrics. Our discovery-funnel guide helps organise that work. A relevant name with clear spelling deserves consideration independently of a single score.

Confirm the metric and URL scope

Moz’s Link Explorer documentation distinguishes Page Authority from Domain Authority and supports root-domain, subdomain and exact-page scopes. Keep those distinctions in the research record.

Use the actual URL, including relevant hostname and protocol, when evaluating page-level evidence. Do not combine the highest values from several different pages as though they were one comparable domain score.

Record whether the analysed page currently loads, redirects or returns an error. That observation distinguishes historical page-link data from an accessible current resource.

PA belongs to Moz. Ahrefs and Majestic provide their own metrics; similar numbers are not interchangeable measurements. Mark missing results as unknown rather than assigning a favourable zero-risk interpretation.

Inspect the links that support the page

Identify important referring pages, open them and check whether the links remain present. Note anchor text, surrounding explanation and the target URL.

A high-scoring old resource may have earned references because of that specific material. Determine whether your intended project can serve a coherent need at the address with original content you have rights to publish.

Our metrics-shortlisting walkthrough shows why source-page inspection matters. A Trust Flow/Citation Flow comparison can raise questions, but no universal ratio certifies a natural link history.

Check several periods of previous use

The Wayback Machine helps inspect captured pages. Review subject changes and unexplained commercial content across dates.

Archives have gaps and cannot certify the absence of search problems. Acquiring the registration does not grant ownership of the old articles or their associated identity.

Verify availability and full cost separately

Open the current registrar search or live auction listing. ICANN’s status guide explains why expiry, pending deletion and available registration are different situations.

Check identity conflicts, renewal prices and transaction charges. For an illustrative £300 allowance, reserving £40 for acquisition costs and £60 for holding leaves £200 for the name.

Finish with the exact pages inspected, verified references and unresolved questions. Select within a documented budget, rather than buying because PA appears to promise traffic or sales.
