Once a previously expired domain has been acquired, selling it online requires a current offer that a buyer can understand and a transaction you can complete. The practical work is selecting a route, maintaining an accurate listing and handling enquiries consistently.
Confirm registration control first. An entry on an expired-domain research list does not authorise you to advertise the name as your asset.
Prepare the listing information
Record the exact spelling and extension, registrar, renewal timing, transfer status and included assets. Set an asking format and compare relevant completed sales with their dates and channels.
Our appraisal worksheet helps support the range. Naming quality, old registration dates and research metrics need interpretation rather than a standard price multiplier.
Keep historical traffic, public estimates and current authenticated observations distinct. A domain-only sale does not automatically transfer the old business, its audience or permission to reproduce its content.
Compare current seller routes
Afternic provides marketplace listings and sales landers. Sedo documents owner auction formats, and its brokerage documentation describes separate seller assignments.
Check current eligibility, commission basis, minimum charges and completion terms for the route you choose. Provider policies change, so a copied fee percentage or old marketplace recommendation is insufficient for budgeting.
GoDaddy’s auction update explains the removal of member-seller listings and the seller route through Afternic. Distinguish expiry inventory acquisition from listing your own portfolio for sale.
Write an offer with an observable purpose
Explain the naming advantage and plausible independent uses in straightforward language. Identify whether payment buys the registration alone or additional specified assets.
State a fixed price or clear enquiry process. Do not promise inherited search rankings or describe third-party traffic estimates as verified visitors. Dates and evidence are more useful than general claims about authority.
Our seller funnel guide connects the listing with discovery, enquiries and buyer decisions.
Maintain prices and respond to genuine offers
Separate an immediate purchase from an instalment or lease arrangement. Record when control changes, what happens after missed payments and which service charges continue. A scheduled future total is different from proceeds already received.
Keep one record of each listing, asking terms, offers and conditions. Resolve conflicting buy-now prices and remove completed sales promptly, especially where a platform can initiate a sale under your settings.
Compare net proceeds after charges and any payment schedule. Respond accurately, avoid invented competing bids and establish which terms need approval before committing.
Agree payment, delivery and acceptance
Escrow.com documents staged transactions where used. Follow the actual provider agreement and verify delivered control separately from an accepted offer.
Update the portfolio record after completion. Our management guide supports renewals and listing status. If the name remains unsold, set a review date for the asking strategy and next renewal instead of assuming exposure will eventually produce a sale.
